PRIZM Art Fair / Art Basel Miami Beach
December 4 – 22, 2014

Please join us at the PRIZM Art Fair opening reception on Thursday, December 4th, 7-10pm to view and celebrate the artwork of artists Sylvia Maier, Ming Smith, Margaret Rose Vendryes and other dynamic, contemporary artists at the Miami Center for Architecture and Design.
Salient works will be presented that highlight the diversity evident in contemporary visual art practices today, including painting, sculpture and mixed media installations. PRIZM will also feature the work of emerging Miami-based artists of African descent, such as T. Eliot, and Asser Saint Val. These artists redefine their world and bring into focus socio-political and cultural issues pertinent to the people of African descent in Miami and beyond.

Syvia Maier's paintings explore the human condition. Life-size figurative works depict urban settings. Ceremonies and spiritual fervor, cultural identity and tolerance are displayed. Her paintings illustrate things that are taboo and break them open for the revelation of their meaning and purpose. click here for information on the artist

Ming Smith is known for her informal meditative vision, in-action portraits and surrealist street scenes. Ming's 40+ year career's place in photography's 175-year history was recognized by her inclusion in the Museum of Modern Art's groundbreaking exhibition Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography in 2010. click here for more information on the artist

Margaret Rose Vendryes gives her dynamic female performers agency and protection in her celebrated African Diva Project, replacing their psychological masks with literal ones. Songs - messages that once rose out of vinyl channels like black magic - are inscribed in the space that surrounds them. click her for more information on the artist
