OPTIMISTIC: Hopeful and confident about the future.
That word sums up my outlook on life at the age of 5, as represented in this piece, titled "Great Start", that I first created in 2004 (this version in 2017). A kindergarten class photo of me in Newark, NJ in 1958, overlaid with text describing the outfit my Mom chose for me and my excitement about starting school. This early confidence about my future was never diminished even though I was starting out in the legally segregated United States of America. That's because my family, friends and mentors, loved, encouraged and supported me up to this very day.
